Walsall Leather Skills Centre Group Classes

In 2025 Jo started to lead some group courses at the Walsall Leather Skills Centre. These classes are limited to 6 people per class and cover a range of skills and projects, from complete beginners to more advanced crafter.

Shoulder Bag 2
Learn how to make this awesome shoulder bag in our 2-day class.
  • Learn how to create and fit piping to your bag + gain knowledge on how to do this in your own future projects.
  • Countersinking fittings to reduce bulk and lumps in your finished bag
  • Creating a once piece adjustable shoulder strap with running loop
  • Choose from 3 front different magnet cover designs 
Like the original shoulder bag class, this is aimed at those who have already started in leather craft and are comfortable in hand stitching, and cutting out leather. This one also has more stitching and cutting involved than the original bag.

  • Learn how to cut and fit U-shaped gussets.
  • Use a combination of tools to help reduce the edges of your gussets to aid in assembly.
  • Make a 2 piece, adjustable shoulder strap with fixed and running loops

This class is aimed at those who have already started in leather craft and are comfortable in hand stitching, and cutting out leather.

The Berwyn Bag, Handmade Leather Bag

Beginner Leather Stitching & Card Holder Class
Aimed at complete beginners, this 1 day class allows you to dip your toe into the wonderful world of leather craft. 

  • Learn about different types and the tools used in leather craft
  • Choose from 4 designs and make your first leathercraft project - the handstitched coaster
  • Using your new skills, choose from one of our designs and create your own cardholder.

This class is ideal for those of you looking to get started in leathercraft as a hobby or as a taster to see if you'd like to start a whole new side hustle!

Small Leather Goods Class
Aimed at novice crafters who have already started crafting (e.g. completed the 1 day, beginner stitching and cardholder class), and are looking to improve on their skills and add new projects to their repertoire.

  • Choose to make your own cardholder, beginner wallet, passport cover, belt, dog collar or lead (depending on how you get on, you might be able to complete more than one project)
  • Learn the specific skills needed to create your chosen project, with expert guidance from Jo

Advanced Wallet Making
Aimed at those who have already started crafting and are able to hand stitch leather and confidently use their knives for cutting and skiving. 

  • Complete a premium leather wallet — choose from two designs
  • Selecting the right leather for refined wallet builds
  • Edge painting for a professional finish
  • Skiving key components to reduce bulk
  • Using trim allowances for clean, consistent edges
